Western Victoria Primary Health Network recently joined with Neami National and its partner organisations to mark the first anniversary of Step Thru Care services in the Geelong Otway region.
Step Thru Care mental health and alcohol and other drugs support services commenced on 1 July 2023. Consortiums of highly experienced healthcare providers are delivering the services in each of WVPHN’s four sub-regions.
In Geelong Otway, Neami is delivering Step Thru Care in partnership with the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative, Windana Drug and Alcohol Recovery and Drummond St Services. Through the service, they have offered safe, accessible, and meaningful support to approximately 1,000 people from all age groups over the first 12 months.

| “Step Thru Care is a groundbreaking approach using partnerships and an integrated model for delivering services across the spectrum of mental health and AOD. Neami, in partnership with Windana Drug and Alcohol Recovery, Drummond Street Services and Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative, has delivered a valuable service in a warm and welcoming space for clients to feel safe and heard. Western Victoria Primary Health Network continues to meet regularly with the Step Thru Care team as we extend the reach of the services and increase awareness of the program both within the community and the local primary healthcare sector.”

“Over the last year, we are proud to have supported 1,000 people experiencing mental health and substance use challenges in the Geelong Otway region. When people are experiencing complex mental health and substance use challenges, we know that it can be difficult to find the right mix of supports and that people often have to re-tell their story with each support provider. Step Thru Care brings together a multidisciplinary team of mental health and alcohol and other drug professionals, to provide wrap around supports in one place. By working in partnership with Windana, Drummond Street and Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative, we’ve been able to provide people with meaningful support tailored to their needs.”
