CEO Primary Matters – 8 September

Mental Health Matters

This week we again recognise the importance of mental health support and suicide prevention as part of RUOK? Day (9 September) and World Suicide Prevention Day (10 September).   I encourage everyone in our community spend time this week reaching out to friends, family and colleagues and, if appropriate, asking them if they want to chat about how things are going. It is a small step but an important one for both ourselves and those around us.

With this in mind, next week, Western Victoria PHN will be hosting an important online event on Supporting Young People and their Families through Grief and Suicide death. If you are a GP, nurse, a practice manager or staff member; or as school counsellor, I strongly recommend attending this session. You can register via our website.

And if you need urgent support, please call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Beyond Blue on 1300 224636.

Women’s Health Week

September 6 to 10 also marks Women’s Health Week – an initiative of Jean Hailes for Women’s Health covering both women’s mental and physical health.  Hundreds of events are being held across Australia including in our region. Check their website for more details.

Diary Date

Set aside Thursday, 28 October in your diaries for our 2021 Annual General Meeting. Once again, it will be held online to ensure we remain COVID-safe. Further information will be sent to WVPHN members early October. Also, we are seeking nominations for an Elected Board director vacancy. Nominations for this position closes 5pm Monday 20 September 2021. Please note: only full WVPHN members as at 30 June 2021 are eligible to nominate for this board vacancy. Details are available from our website article.

Thank You Campaign

Finally, keep your eyes open in local papers and on social media for our Thank You campaign, recognising the dedication and hard work of staff in primary health care across western Victoria.  GPs, Practice Managers, receptionists, nurses and the people who look after cleaning and upkeep at our practices are all are doing an amazing job during a challenging time. The first ads will appear in the Ballarat and Horsham press soon and will be followed by similar ads in other parts of our region over coming months.
