New Assessment Tools Available for the Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program

Services Australia has published new assessment tools to help general practices and health providers monitor and confirm eligibility for Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program (BBPIP) payments.

The Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (DHDA) has advised that practices and providers registered with the BBPIP and that meet program requirements can expect to receive their first BBPIP incentive payment in January 2026.

The BBPIP was introduced on 1 November 2025 alongside the Government’s expansion of bulk billing eligibility to all Australians who have a Medicare card as part of the Strengthening Medicare strategy and the MyMedicare initiative.

The new assessment tools can be accessed via Services Australia’s Health Professional Online Services (HPOS) portal, see HPOS – Health professionals | Services Australia

For information on how to use the tools, see Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program (BBPIP) – Health professionals | Services Australia

The latest tools enable practices and providers to use:

  • Forecast assessments to monitor and confirm eligibility for BBPIP incentive payments and check if there are any issues with registration or eligible item claims.
  • Final assessments to confirm if they have met all BBPIP requirements and view the corresponding incentive payment after the end of the quarter.
  • BBPIP payment details to view the Services Australia incentive payment for each quarterly assessment period, available after the quarter ends.

In addition, to help with the smooth payment of their incentives, DHDA advises practices to:

  • Check the registration start date.
  • Provide bank details for the practice and all linked providers for BBPIP, even if they previously provided bank account details for other programs.
  • Keep accreditation up to date.
  • Link all providers with separate provider numbers for each site.

General practices or practitioners requiring more information or support on BBPIP or other aspects of MyMedicare can contact your Primary Care Engagement Officer (formerly known as practice facilitator) or email [email protected]
