The Sustainability in Healthcare series covered the following topics:

  • The RACGP Position Statement on the impact of climate change on human health.
  • Strategies for “greening” our practices through both clinical and non-clinical activities.
  • Examination of prescribing habits, particularly concerning antibiotics and metered dose inhalers.
  • Discussion on digital health practices and the elimination of inefficiencies and waste in everyday care.
  • The potential role of the PHN in adaptation and preparation strategies for future natural disasters and pandemics in regional Victoria.

Learning Outcomes included:

  • Explaining the RACGP position statement on the impact of climate change on human health.
  • Describing strategies for reducing the health sector carbon footprint through adoption of high value care, through elimination of low value care and care “waste.
  • Sharing our progress towards “greening” our practices through both clinical and non-clinical activities.
  • Discussing the broader primary care sector role in climate adaptation and disaster preparation strategies.
  • Participating in a community of practice and peer learning network.
