Palliative Care Education Webinar Series 2024 – Session Four

This Palliative Care Webinar Series is brought to you by the Barwon South Western Region Palliative Care Consortium in collaboration with Western Victoria Primary Health Network.

Barwon South Western Region Palliative Care Consortium believes everyone with a life-limiting illness deserves access to quality palliative care and support that is innovative and meets their needs.

The consortium includes the six major palliative care providers across the region and is working to continually develop and improve palliative care services for the residents of Victoria’s Barwon and South West. The consortium offers a range of resources, education and training for health professionals.

Palliative care service providers from across the broader western Victoria region are welcome to attend. 

Session 1, Thursday 7th March, 2.30pm-3.30pm 

Presenter: 

  • Amanda Myring, Spiritual Care Worker 

Topic: 

  • Create your own Tree of Life 

Learning Outcome 

  • Expressive art therapy approach to celebrate personhood, identify strengths, clarify future aspirations and cultivate self-care strategies. 

 

Session 2, Tuesday 16th April, 2.30pm-3.30pm 

Presenter: 

  • Lisha Kuruvilla, Pharmacist  

Topic: 

  • Managing symptoms in the last days of life 

Learning Outcome 

  • Manage common end of life symptoms with safe and effective pharmacology. 

 

Session 3, Tuesday 7th May, 2.30pm-3.30pm 

Presenter: 

  • Meaghan Bruns, Donation Specialist Nurse (Clinical Nurse Consultant)

Topic: 

  • An overview of organ and tissue donation  

Learning Outcome 

  • Educate and refer patients considering organ donation appropriately and timely. 

 

Session 4, Tuesday 11th June, 2.30pm-3.30pm 

Presenters: 

  • Justine Watts, Dietitian and Matt Ely, Physiotherapist 

Topic: 

  • Anorexia and exercise in palliative care  

Learning Outcome 

  • Provide recommendations for exercise and dietary support for people towards end of life or appropriate referrals.
