BALLARAT - Clinical Sprints with Ruth - Wednesday 1 May
Topic: Update on Magseed, Telehealth and the role of the GP in Doctor Health
Dr Ruth Bollard has many special interests that she is keen to share with peers. After much discussion on the topic to present for this evening, we decided maybe a "speed date" or "Clinical Sprint" on several topics would be beneficial and a new approach to try.
The topics Ruth has decided to present in a concise and succinct format for approximately 10-15 minutes each include:
- Magseed learning a new method of breast lesion localisation
- Discuss benefits of telehealth for patients GP and specialists
- Discuss role of GP in Doctor Health - Wellness planning for general practitioners. This is a new area of interest for Ruth and something she is very passionate about.
This will all be followed by a Q&A
Dr Ruth Bollard works at Specialists on Drummond. Dr Bollard offersTelehealth consultation services, which is the use of electronic information and telecommunications technologies to support long-distance clinical health care.
Videoconferencing is one of the main ways in which Telehealth is improving access to healthcare services for patients who live in regional, rural, and remote areas, rather that the patient having to travel to the nearest major city to see a specialist.
At Specialists on Drummond they are currently using Skype to provide this service either directly to the patient, or to the patients' General Practitioners office. This service is useful when a patient and/or their local doctor requires a consultation with their specialist, but without the need for a physical examination. Such consultations could include discussion of: test results; wound management; medications; ongoing treatment plans; or many other medical services.
