Western Victoria Primary Health Network is building on its previous experience in supporting local general practitioners and expanding its support to allied health professionals in private practice. We are working with allied health professionals to improve our knowledge of the services they provide and the gaps that exist in primary health care. A key activity is to accurately profile allied health professionals in our region, as well as offering networking and educational opportunities.
We will be working with allied health professionals to share information and integrate primary health care at a local level. Those allied health professions include:
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health practitioners
- Chinese Medicine practitioners
- Dental practitioners
- Diabetes Educators
- Exercise Physiologists
- Occupational Therapists
- Social Workers
- Speech Pathologists
In order to improve local health service integration and coordination we are working with a broad range of services and providers to identify service gaps and priorities and develop locally focused solutions. For example, access to paediatric services, and after-hours access to pharmacies and medical facilities. Western Victoria Primary Health Network is working with local health providers to help plan and coordinate responses to these challenges.
Western Victoria Primary Health Network provides opportunities for allied health professionals to have greater engagement with other allied health professionals and services, general practice, local hospital networks and community organisations. There will be opportunities to participate in program committees, planning forums, clinical networks and be a part of delivering health promotion activities. We will also be seeking information and feedback from you in order to improve our knowledge.
Whether it is attending networking opportunities, participating in an advisory group or responding to needs surveys, there are many opportunities to get involved with Western Victoria Primary Health Network and help shape the health of our community.
