Barwon Housing & Homelessness Support Service

People experiencing homelessness or a housing crisis in Geelong, Colac, the Surf Coast and surrounding areas are able to access a service via local entry points.

Services available may include:

  • access to short term, crisis or transitional housing
  • support
  • assistance to secure or maintain current accommodation
  • housing advice
  • financial assistance
  • referral

The 1800 number diverts to a state-wide response outside of business hours, including public holidays.

Anyone ringing the number after hours will be assisted at the time and then directed to the most appropriate Access Point service on the next business day

Homeless Outreach Psychiatric Service (HOPS)

A partnership between Pathways, Barwon Health and other agencies that provides support for people with a severe mental illness who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Criteria

  • Aged: 16 - 65 years in the Barwon South West region
  • People with a severe mental illness who are being case managed by Barwon Health Mental Health or Drug and Alcohol services and are homeless or at risk of homelessness

Homeless Outreach

Mental Illness Fellowship Victoria provides intensive support and counselling to young people with a severe mental illness who are either homeless or at risk of homelessness to support housing, improved access to employment and education and linking with other supporting services. This program is delivered in collaboration with Barwon Youth and Jigsaw.

Criteria

This service is available to anyone aged 16 to 24, the young person will be assessed for readiness for the program via a series of intensive interviews and consultations over a period of time.
